           What is bending?

When a racer takes a turn, the motorcycle has a very high inclination, almost touching the ground and looking very dangerous. So why do you take this position? Aren't you afraid of falling?

This method of turning by lowering the body of the car is called bending, which is a common way of turning. It may seem exaggerated and dangerous, but it is the safest way of turning.

When riding a motorcycle at a fast speed into a bend, its own mass and angular velocity will generate strong centrifugal force. In order to resist this centrifugal force and not be thrown out, balance can only be maintained by tilting the body inward.

The angle of inclination is related to the speed and mass when passing through a bend, as well as the size of the bend. Generally speaking, the faster the speed, the heavier the mass, and the larger the bend, the greater the centrifugal force generated, and the greater the inclination angle of the motorcycle.

In motorcycle races, racers usually wear knee pads to protect their knees. Although it may sound safer, I still advise everyone: there are millions of roads, safety is the top priority, and it is best not to imitate them casually.

Do you need technical skills for bending?

The bending action has undergone significant changes over the past half century, with the continuous updating of vehicles and the preferences of different drivers, it has produced quite classic bending postures in various eras.

In the early stages of racing, leather jackets were relatively rudimentary, and drivers wore helmets and goggles to race directly. Even racing cars have a semi fairing design. Due to the underdeveloped tire technology and the inherent limitations of narrow tires, even fake replacement racing cars cannot use too much inclination to turn. In addition, the horsepower of the racing cars at that time was basically around 80, so the drivers at that time all hugged the body tightly when turning.

In the 1970s, I believe everyone knows who the representative drivers of this era are. Back in the day, Kenny Roberts officially entered the arena with the action of turning the Morse knee. At that time, the power of the vehicle allowed the driver to start sliding the rear wheels to assist in steering, and by rubbing the knees, the maximum inclination angle could be ensured, accurately passing through each corner.

In the 1990s, the representative figure was definitely the driver Du Han. At that time, the GP racing car had a horsepower of 200, a two-stroke engine with no electronic control system, and was also equipped with wider tires. This means that the driver needs more inclination to go to the corner. At this time, Du Han uses a posture similar to twisting Fried Dough Twists to go to the corner, which helps to save the situation at Highside at any time.

During the four stroke period, as the electronic control system begins to be introduced and tire technology advances, there is less Highside risk, and drivers will move closer to the center of the bend to achieve excellent cornering speed. A more stable sense of control, with unimaginable angles of over 60 degrees and surreal riding postures such as rubbing knees, elbows, and even touching shoulders.
